Everyone feels sad at times, like when you end a relationship, when you lose a friend or family member, or when things go wrong at work. However, if you have depression you'll feel sad, down or miserable most of the time and you'll find it hard to cope from day to day.

Signs/symptoms of depression

Feelings

  • intense sadness that does not go away
  • loss of interest in things that used to be enjoyable
  • feeling hopeless
  • feeling helpless
  • irritable & angry

Thoughts

  • less confidence or low self esteem
  • more trouble than usual making decisions
  • thoughts of death or suicide

Behaviour

  • crying easily & often
  • avoiding friends & family
  • not keeping up personal appearance
  • neglecting responsibilities like chores and work

Physical

  • low energy
  • walking and talking very slowly
  • sleeping too much or too little
  • eating too much or too little

Energy Psychology and Depression

Energy Psychology operates on the principle that whatever the presenting problem is; it has a counterpart in the client's energy system and can be treated at an energetic level. In a session Energy Psychology techniques can address the body and mind symptoms of depression. Acupressure points or other energy points can be engaged to decrease the distress and negative emotions attached to certain thoughts and situations. Limiting beliefs can also be detected that may be producing stress in an individual's system.
